I am in the midst of painting various rooms in our house. I know, I know…lots of fun, right? Well, not exactly. For those of you who have ever painted a room, you know there is a lot more involved than just putting an attractive color on walls. Preparation, selection of proper tools and time consuming cleanup can be a lot of work. But, in the end (we hope!) it’s all worth it.
One of the things I’ve learned during the painting process is that understanding your personal style and taste are key to getting the result you want. Red is a great color, but if you prefer muted, understated colors like beiges, creams and soft greens, chances are you will not be happy waking up every morning in a red bedroom. I love green, but can I bear to come home to a forest green wall every day? Probably not.
It’s easy to see the parallels between jewelry design and painting. Both have everything to do with color and style. Whether you’re making jewelry for yourself, or for someone else, create jewelry that reflects who you are. You are most likely to put your best effort and deepest passion into something that reflects the natural you. Whether you prefer styles that are trendy, classic, eclectic or vintage, you’ll feel most proud of designs that reflect your authentic self. It is, of course, fun to experiment with different styles, angles and trends; don’t be so boxed in that you never explore other styles. There are plenty of great ones out there. That being said, let the true you soar in your jewelry designs as you continue to learn and grow in your craft. Happy beading!
