I use to shy away from turquoise only because of the way the pieces were set. They were all the same. It is such a beautiful stone and such a compliment to many other stones, I couldn’t help myself.
This combination reminds me of a sunset walk on the beach, cool waves and warm skies.
Here’s what I used:
- beading wire – 20″
- S-clasp – 1
- sterling 4mm beads – 4
- crimp tube 1 x 2 mm – 2
- Bali style beads – 6
- carnelian coins 4 mm – 10
- carnelian chunk – 26
- turquoise chips – 32
- turquoise focal – 1
Anchor one end of the beading wire to the clasp ring by threading 1 sterling bead, 1 crimp tube, 1 sterling bead on the wire. Push the end of the beading wire through the ring of the clasp and fold it back onto itself. Allow yourself about 1 1/2″. Push the free end of the beading wire back through the anchor set of beads. Crimp the crimp tube to fix it to the beading wire.
From the free end of the wire start stringing your beads. Slide on 5 of the carnelian coins. Follow this with an alternating pattern of turquoise chips and carnelian chunks, starting with turquoise and ending with turquoise. Use 14 turquoise and 13 carnelian on one side.
Alternate the Bali style beads with turquoise – using 3 Bali style beads and 2 turquoise chips.
Add the focal pendant.
Work your way backwards to finish up the necklace using the side you just finished as a template.
