There are a lot of beginner-type beading books that cover wire & chain jewelry and have some project ideas in them.
The one I learned jewelry making from is called Creative Bead Jewelry , which covers wirework, stringing, loomwork, and polymer clay - a good introduction
to a number of different beading techniques.

I've found this magazine to be one of the best sources of ongoing inspiration--they always have great projects and clear photos and instructions.
